William Henry Smith starts the company in Birmingham.

Derwent Plastics founded in Stamford Bridge.

High demand for Bakelite during WWII for radar components.

1954

Fred Smith, William’s son, joins the business.  His entrepreneurial spirit moves the company into Injection Moulding.

1966

WHS

The firm officially becomes WH Smith and Sons (Tools) Ltd and moves to larger premises.  Customers include Black and Decker and Rover Group.

1969

XANDOR

Pickering site opens as a satellite of Stamford Bridge.

1970's

Canning Brett purchased by PSM International and relocated to it’s current site in Pontardawe, Swansea.

1978

WHS

Business diversifies into plastic extrusion, mainly for the window industry.  Clint Smith, Fred’s son, joins the business ensuring the continuation of the firm’s philosophy.

1984

Company moves to an owned 36 acre site in Minworth and builds new HQ.

1985

PSM International bought by McKechnie Group.

1990's

Expansion of site 2 and 3 to create over 300,00 sq.ft. of manufacturing space.

1991

Larkhall site opens as Peter Tilling Plastics.

1996

XANDOR

Larkhall site purchased by Maersk and becomes know as Rosti.

1999

Eaton acquires Brierley Hill from Aeroquip Vickers.
